How to Pull Canvassing Results
When a canvasser attempts to contact a voter on their list, the result is logged in either MiniVAN or an Open Virtual Phone Bank.
The results are categorized as either "Canvassed" for voters who responded to at least one survey question, or "Non-Canvassed" for those who did not respond.
To pull canvassing results, follow these steps:
Step 1
Commit Your Data
To ensure quality data in MiniVAN, VAN introduces a "stopgap" before permanently saving canvasser data, a process known as committing. Data not committed within 21 days is lost without exceptions.
It's advised that Organizing or Executive Directors check MiniVAN Commit daily. To commit data, access MiniVAN Commit in VAN's desktop version, review data for errors or inconsistencies, and resolve any red flags before committing. Afterward, the data will be available in VAN.
Step 2
Navigate to the Organizing menu located at the bottom left corner, then select Canvass Results to view the total number of contact attempts.
Step 3
Within Canvass Results, utilize filters like Contact Type (e.g., Walk, Phone, SMS Text), group by Canvasser, or narrow down the search by date, and then click Refresh Results to see the total contact attempts on the right.
To view results by precinct, first group by County, then click on the name of the county.
Step 4
You can find the number of individuals for door knocking and phones in two ways: if the voter contact information falls within a 14-day range, generate a report in VAN by navigating to Report Manager > Default Templates > Contact History Report or Phone Contact History Report.
